About Us
Andra Bester has been working for more than 30 years as an Audiologist since she graduated in 1990. In 2013 she moved from Pretoria to the Northern Cape. She first opened her Kathu office in 2013 and purchased the Upington office from Magda Leibrandt in April 2014.
Andra Bester Audiologist has three offices. Our Audiologists have a 4 degree in Audiology and have many years of experience. We are constantly attending training opportunities and are trying to stay on par with the newest developments within the field Audiology. Our offices have the newest equipment and are delivering world standards of services in our Kathu and Upington offices.
Upington office has been a well-established office for more than 20 years. Andra took the office over from the previous owner in April 2014. Since then we have been moving to newer, bigger premises. Upington now has a full-time Audiologist. We have been involved in community projects in the area and are doing regular newborn hearing screening in the private hospital.
Kathu office was established in October 2013 and also has a full-time Audiologist. Kathu’s office is involved in the conservation of hearing at the mines as well as community screening programs at schools in the area. (Reisa project)
Since the beginning of 2020, we are reaching out to the town Springbok and surrounding Namakwaland communities by having an office two days a month in Springbok.

New Born Hearing Screening
More than half of babies that have hearing loss have no family history of hearing loss or other risk factors. Without screening, it is difficult to detect hearing loss until speech and language development becomes delayed.
A newborn hearing test is usually done when your baby is asleep or settled. The screening equipment plays a series of soft sounds into your baby’s ear through a headphone that is gently held on your baby’s head and records the response.
Newborn hearing screening does not hurt or harm your baby. It is simple and safe – most babies sleep through it.
Industrial Testing
Individuals who work in high level noise are the most susceptible to developing hearing loss. Industrial hearing screenings offer annual hearing checks for workers who are regularly exposed to harmful levels of noise in their work environment.
If you work in a noisy environment, it is important to determine if occupational noise exposure is having an effect on employees hearing over time.
Hearing Protection
When a person is overexposed to excessive noise, the sensitive structures within the inner ear can be damaged. This can result in permanent noise-induced hearing loss.
If you work in an environment like labourers in mines, law enforcement, hair dressers, dentist, hunters or crane truck operators it is important to wear hearing protection.
